Round 1: Dropzone 40k

Tyranid forces dominate the planet as the various factions attempt to transport their forces to the surface of Manzikert. Feel free to play any game you feel that represents your forces landing on the planet/ trying to prevent an opposing force from making a safe insertion. These games could be of any size, though I imagine games of around 1,000 to 2,500 points would be most appropriate. You can play as many or as few games as you like (the more you play the more you will determine the Narrative of the Campaign).

Below please find two suggested scenario ideas to represent forces arriving on the planet.

Aerial Assault
Before the game begins agree who will be the defender and who will be the attacker.

Play any Eternal War or Maelstrom mission (either random or agree an appropriate one). However make the following changes.

First dice off, the winner may choose a board edge, all their forces will fall back towards this board edge. The other play will have the opposite board edge, which their forces will fall back towards if they break.

Roll one D3 the defender may move, change or add that number of pieces of terrain. This represents defending forces building (or growing!) defences.

The defender must deploy first and may deploy anywhere on the board. They must deploy at least one unit, the rest of their army can be in reserve if desired. Reserves will arrive from the defenders board edge unless they are able to outflank or deep strike.

The attacker must deep strike or outflank all his forces. Attacking units that are not normally able to deepstrike gain the deepstrike special rule for this mission, they have been given special equipment to allow them to do so (teleporters, grav chutes etc.). Attacking units that already have the deepstrike special rule do not scatter when they deepstrike during this mission.

The attacker always has the first turn, the defender may not seize the initiative.

Victory is determined in the normal way for the mission chosen, with the exception that no one can gain a vp for Linebreaker.

Webway/ Warprift Assault
This mission represents Eldar or Chaos forces arriving through the Webway or a Warprift (at a push it could also represent Necrons appearing from a hidden entrance to their Tombs).

Before the game begins agree who will be the defender and who will be the attacker.

Set the board up in a mutually agreeable manner.

Next, beginning with the defender take it turns to place five objectives in the usual manner.

The defender must deploy first and may deploy anywhere on the board. They must deploy at least one unit, the rest of their army can be in reserve if desired. Reserves will arrive from a random board edge unless they have the deepstrike special rule.

The attacker must then place a sixth and final objective on the board using the normal rules. This represents the entrance to the Webway/the Warp.

The attacker gets the first turn (the defender cannot seize), they move onto the board as if the entrance to the Webway/the Warp is a board edge, using the normal rules for moving onto the board. The attacker may leave units in reserve, they may choose to deepstrike their reserves if they have the deepstrike special rule.

Defending forces fall back toward the nearest board edge. Attacking forces fall back toward the Webway/ Warprift and are removed from the board as soon as they reach it.

The mission uses the variable game length rules.

Each objective marker, including the Webaway/Warprift is worth 3vp, slay the warlord and first blood also award vp's

How long does Round one last and how do I report results!?
Round one of the Weekend Warlords Manzikert Campaign begins today (1st December) and will last two and a half weeks until the 18th December (Easy to remember as it's Star Wars day!). Please inform me of the results of your games by writing your results, preferably with some highs (or lows) of the game in the comments below. On the 19th December I will then write the next part of the Narrative based on the game results and explain what will happen next.

  1. Eldar from Craftworld Alturan have successfully reached the surface of Manzikert through secret passages in the Webway clearing out a Tyranid infestation as they do so. However disaster struck in the final moments of the battle as a huge winged Hive Tyrant filled Farseer Eldurans body with devourer worms, before flying off into the distance.

Thankfully nearby Guardian defenders were able to extract the worms before they ate Eldurans vital organs. However Elduran has been left with hatred for the Hive Tyrant. Many Warlocks fear he is unhinged and no longer able to lead the force, only time will tell if there fears are founded.

Meanwhile the Tyrant now has a taste for Eldar flesh and wants more. The Norn Queens working on bio forms to combat this new threat.

  2. First game of the 40k campaign for the Tau!
Defended the research facility from the Iron Hand Librarians.
The Pathfinders slaying the chief Librarian in close combat.
    For the greater good....

  3. Battling against the Eldar the Blood Angels 1st Company, just barely manage to secure a landing zone to drop in their heavy armour. This armoured Spearhead is deployed just in time to blunt an Eldar counter attack.

The Blood Angels have secured a Dropzone for the Imperial Expedition but the Eldar will surely be out for revenge.

  4. the first rays of sunlight shined through the clouds over Manzikert, a small contingent of Eldar strolled through the streets of one of the many cities. Suddenly out of the shadows appeared a Shadowseer, and a contingent of Harlequins, with a sole Solitaire silent in the darkness. Warning of a Dark Eldar arrival when suddenly a crackle of energy spiked in the street as a purple light grew out came the cackling Dark Eldar. Striking hard and fast. In the midst of the battle the Shadowseer danced up to the Archon and wacked him with his Miststave, then dancing off into the distance. The sole survivor of the battle he stood in the shadows observing his Villainous cousins setting up there planetary base.
A 17-3 victory to the Dark Eldar, god damn they can shoot!

  5. It was over.

Her twisted cousins danced and strutted through the corpses of the fallen Craftworld kin, decorating themselves with viscera and searching for survivors.

    The Shadowseer sighed and turned away from the desecration, and lithely made her way down from the shattered spires of the mon-keigh hab where she had been hiding. A chime sounded in her ear and she accepted the connection with a thought. The amused chortle of her Troupe’s remaining Death Jester spilled into her ear;

‘I have seen worse, Seer,’ he chuckled, ‘Yesterday I saw a rare sight; a whole Scorpion pulled and shredded by the Warp before even a single shot was fired. At least our kin got to fight this one’

  6. Though their force was strong and the speed of their attack was unmatched by mere mortals, the forces of Chaos had a hard time fighting for a beachhead! The Eldar under the command of their Farseers had foreseen the arrival of the Dark Gods disciples and had prepared en mass. The elite of their rank, the Wraithbone constructs stood unmoved for days on end waiting for the arrival. And when it came they made themselves heard. A well executed assault saw the chaos pushed back. The Wraithseer standing silent as the chaotic warp rift crackled and died before it.

  7. So i played a campaign game against Christian Moore yesterday and i have to say even though i was getting ploughed into the ground, it was a lot of fun. After rolling off for designations i won and chose to be the attacker and christian the defender. Once the blood angels Deathstar regiment was deployed i selected my tomb gate location for my necron force to spill out of. Unfortunately necrons had no idea the strength of the blood angels and immediately started taking casualties and by turn 3 the necrons were dwindling and with the hqs lost to combat ( including the nightbringer, which did the most damage back ) all seemed lost. Luckily whilst casting physchic powers christian managed to peril and kill 3 of his librarians, unluckily it still wasn't enough and what little remained of the necrons dug deep into their tombs awaiting revenge on the imperium.

  8. Blood Angels forces sent out patrols to secure the landing zone for Imperial forces. Suddenly a rumbling was heard, the ground caved in a Tyranid forces began to pour out of a hole in the ground. The swarm seemed to be never ending, however an Imperial Knight took on the monstrous creatures whilst drop pods (yes drop pods not the veterans in the drop pods!) and the devastators took out the synapse creatures.

Was this was achieved the swarm lost cohesion and scuttled back into the burrow whence they came. As the Blood Angels counted up there dead and wounded they realised yet another Librarian was among the casualties. Could there be some foul Xenos plot to target the chapters Librarians?
