The forces of Chaos knew that Manzikert had in aeons past formed a part of the Eldar Empire. Suspecting the planet would house forbidden technologies, Chaos Cults had tried to infiltrate the Manzikert society for years however they were always thwarted by the ever vigilant Harlequins from ever reaching full ascendency.
They Tyranid invasion had now provided the perfect opportunity. Panicked Imperial Citizens cried out and sacrificed to their Warriour Emperor, unwittingly opening Warp Rifts across the planet through which Daemonic forces could begin their assault. The Eldar technology and souls of a doomed planet were now ripe for the taking.
